Remember

                  Remember

The whistle sounded for us to go

As we climbed over the hill

I heard a sound of gunfire

And all the world stood still

I turned and saw my comrade fall

Causing panic in the mud

I ran towards the nearest trench

And fell down with a thud

Looking round at all the men

Their eyes so full of fear

Hands a shaking  bodies cold

But none would shed a tear

Remember, one voice shouted loud

We all looked round to see

One day he said this war will end

And people will be free
